Wednesday, November 13 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
This will be a regular club meeting where visitors are always welcome. Our guest speaker for today 13 will be Mike Mander, Manager of the Digital Imaging Department at Beau Photo Supplies Inc.
In part 1 of his presentation, Mike will cover the pros and cons of mirrorless cameras: their appeal; types of photography they are suitable for; differences in size, weight, lens selection and lens quality for the various systems; and adaptability of legacy DSLR and film lenses. In part 2 he will give us an overview of how to achieve the best quality in colour printing: types of printers; colour management; gamut; types of papers and their pro’s and con’s.
Photography and computers have each been passions of his for more than 35 years and, when technology allowed, the two merged. Mike has been involved with digital imaging since the early 90’s when it still took a Macintosh Quadra system 40 minutes to open an 18 MB (6 megapixel) “high-res” image off a Kodak Photo-CD. An avid landscape and nature photographer, with a particular love of the desert southwest, he switched to shooting digital SLR back in 2004. He also enjoys photographing cityscapes, especially at night. Squeezing the utmost in image quality from digital camera raw files has been an obsession since switching to digital, as has been testing lenses extensively to find the ones which give him the very best results. He has shot with many different systems from multiple brands of digital SLR and Micro-4/3 bodies to, more recently, a Fujifilm mirrorless system. Having worked with dozens of different photographic printers over the years, as well as a multitude of colour-management systems, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the table.
